I just picked up a Ruger M77 rifle. I was wondering if you had to use the M77 rings, or if you could get by with just using standard rings from Leupold. Also if you have to use the M77 rings, which would you go with? They only Leupold M77 rings come in, are high, and extra high. I will be mounting a Leupold VXIII 3.5-10,40mm scope. The caliber M77 I picked up is 338 win mag. Any thoughts or advice would be great. Thanks in advance.

I would go the M77 rings in the high set, because of the extra eye relief. Using a big caliber you need it. I like the rings on mine used them for years.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-16-09 AT 07:18PM (MST)[p]The rings that come with the M77 from Ruger are medium rings. They should work well with the 40 Leupold. The Ruger rings are very good quality. I wouldn't spend the extra money just to have Leupold rings.
