Looking for a new sight

Hey guys - I currently use a Hoyt sight and am looking for one that has brighter pins. I want at least five pins (I use six now) and it needs to have a level and I would prefer it to have a round housing.

I don't have a bow shop in my town that carries many sights but from what I have read I like the sound and looks of the Cobra Sidewinder Plus, Toxonics K9 55 and the Sure-Loc Lethat Weapon Special Ops. Does anyone use any of these sights and what do you think?

This sight is strictly for a hunting bow and I am open to suggestions.

Thanks,

Try the Spott Hogg Real Deal or SDP(seven deadly pins). It is an awesome sight and has what you are looking for. Cabelas has them.

I personally would not own any other sight than a Spot Hogg. Their micro adjustable pins are the best. Very precise to adjust. The think is also built like a tank. All metal and sturdy. It has everything you want with a few models to suit your needs.

I found the copper john sight works very well. Good sight for your money.

Not to bash all you Spott Hog lovers, just one thing to consider.

The sight is extremely durable but the fiber optics are not protected on the outside the pin guard is pretty much flush with the back of the pins. I have seen broken fibers on numerous occasions in hunting situations.

I currently use the Copper John, it's OK in most categories but the pins are easy to bend. My observations of the Cobra are good, very bright and sturdy.

Trophy Ridge .19 5 pin inline. Tried several from Montana Gold, Copper John, with side pins. After trying the small inline it was a no brainer for me. The pins are super bright. Don't go with the "Guide Series" as I think they are too weak due to the design. I traded out my guide series for a standard mount.

I have the Spot Hogg seven deadly pins, good sight but the micro-adjust pins are a little complicated compared to other sights I have used and at $160 it is by far the most money I have ever spent on a sight. Were I to do it again I would get another Montana Black Gold, I still have one on my Q2XL and like how simple and durable it is. Also easy to add more pins, something that alot of the newer sights cant do (Trophy Ridge for example). I have had several of the fiber optics break and they are replaced for free under the lifetime warranty. If you really want bright, the brightest sight I have used is the Cobra Sidewinder, has something like 3 feet of fiber optic cable wound up for each pin, kind of seems like overkill until you shoot one at dusk.

The Hoyt sights are good so why not order some new fitz fibers and reinstall and then you be good as new. The new material is brighter than the ols stuff anyway and fiber optics do lose some of thier brightness over time. If you just want a new sight the Spot Hoggs are great and you can order a fiber protector to protect the fibers it mounts on the back side of the sight ring. Toxonics, Cobra and some others have some great products out with the new brighter fibers.

That is funny, I am in exactly the same position.. I am tired of breaking my fibers on my hoyt site. I am going with the Toxonics Mk9 55.. Looked at one the other day at Sportsmans or Cabelas.
One of my partners shoots a Spot Hogg and seems to break a few Fibers during a week of elk hunting.. Nice site and seems well built.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and comments.

Actually Boskee I like my sight but need brighter pins so with that I looked at Fitz Fibers web site and like what I saw so I gave a call and am waiting for a return call and will go that route if alls good. Thanks for the tip I had never heard of Fitz before.

Take a look at the Montana Black Gold Flashpoint with the .020 pins or if you want really bright look at the .030's. I haven't seen anything as bright, plus the optic lines are very well protected.

Santa brought me a new bow and this is the sight I'm going to go with. I looked at just about everything else and this sight really stands out.

Your welcome Splash and you might want to see about looking into extending the length of your fibers and put the extra along the sight bracket in a clear tube ( secure it with a cable tie) to make them even more bright. Some models you can and some you can't. Hope the fitz fiber route works out for you.

I also have a Montana Black Gold Flashpoint. It's a very nice sight. The fibers imbed halfway into the pins to protect them much better than the Copper John or Spot Hogg sights.

I personally like the 0.019 fiber with the photochromatic spools on top like the Flashpoint. This way you get all the brightness in your pins when it's dark, but the tiny size that doesn't flare in the bright sun.

Cheers,
Pete
