LAST EDITED ON Jul-18-15 AT 05:23PM (MST)[p]Looking to hunt elk in the rifle season & wanted to know what to expect weather wise also the hunting pressure. Not looking for an honey holes or spots I am researching it makes it more fun if we are successful. Even if we eat tag soup we are looking forward to seeing some beautiful country & some awesome camping. We are looking at unit 25.

I have hunted the McCall zone a bunch over the years. Before 92 it was great. Before 96 it was good. For the next few years elk was good but deer has never recovered where we hunt. When the first wave of wolves came through about 2004, it changed fast and has not been the same since. We have found the elk are on the move, if you get lucky and catch them in their circle then you are in them. Honestly we have only hunted that area a couple times in the last ten years. With the wolf season going on for a couple years now it might help it get better. We hunt several miles off the road, so the wolves hit our area hard and have stayed there. We have been talking about going back in this year armed with some wolf tags to see what is around.

Good luck, DZ

there are some elk there. on opening day, you may have a hard time finding a place to park. it'll clear our by mid season.
