Hi all-
The wife and I drew McNeil River permits for the end of June! Super excited about it and looking for info from anybody with a serious opinion.
Anticipating flying into Anchorage a couple days early. Then take a day drive down to Homer. Stay the night there and go for a halibut fishing trip. Bush flight outta Homer to the reserve and back to Anchorage at the end.
Would love some input from any of you guys that have been to McNeil on what to take, what to wear, and what to use for photography/videoing.No electricity available for battery charging makes this one challenging.
Also love input on some small outta the way places to lodge 2 different nights in Anchorage and 1 night in Homer. B&B style is awesome. Just want to avoid the chain motel thing.
Advice on charter boats for a halibut trip would be awesome...and is the end of June even good for the halibut? Really dont want to go out on a boat with 10 other people... been there done that and didnt enjoy it.Preferably a smaller outfit?
I see there are a certain number of flying outfits that are permitted to fly in there.Any recommendations? Beluga Lake, Emerald Air, Northwind, and Steller Air are the ones listed on ADFG website.
My first Alaska trip...even though Ive been dreaming of it since I was a kid.If youd rather talk than type, IM me your number and a good time. I will call you for sure!
