LAST EDITED ON Nov-03-03 AT 04:48PM (MST)[p]Just got back from my Montana hunt yesterday. What a fantastic state. I had never been over there, absolutely beautiful country and I have never seen so many animals. We hunted the snowcrest and gravely ranges along with what apeared to be most of the other peole in the state that had tags. That was teh only drwaback was the crowd but if you didn't mind hiking you could get away.
We didnt get any big animals, my buddy got a 5 point bull and a small fork horn muley. Then the other two of us ened up shooting whitetail spikes teh last day just so we had some meat. We held of as long as we could on the small deer but we said we would hunt till noon sat and we shot the spikes at noon sat. The unit we were staying in was closed to muleys unfourtunately, because we saw a bunch and they were big. One of the guys staying in the same area we were went to another unit and managed a 27" 4 point muley and his partner got a 4 point bull on the same hunt.
The weather ranged from t-shirt weather on the opener to below zero later in the week. We packed the bull out in about 40 mph winds and the temp right around zero so the wind chill was down there a ways. a little over a mile of a pack, We loved every minute of it though.
SO I am now hooked on Montana hunting. Those of you that live over there are pretty lucky. I thought we had a nice State here in Oregon. So I have a couple more days before deer season ends here so I will try and get another nice blacktail then Elk season on the coast in a couple weeks.
