LAST EDITED ON Sep-05-16 AT 09:40PM (MST)[p]Don't buy a call, it is a crock. All you need is your hands. Have hunted moose 3 times, 4th time this fall and I have yet to ever use one or need it. I just use my voice and hands.
First one I called in was when I was 16 we learned how to call from a fella at the bar when we were scouting one day. He took us outside and showed us.
Bring a short paddle, shoulder blade from a big game animal or something similar for "raking", that is beneficial. Also simply walking through water while calling is good.
edit- as in late in season, how late are you talking? Moose are just like deer/elk.
-there is the pre rut where they are not as vocal but still come in.
-rut, vocal and may or may not come to calling due to possibly already tending cow(s)
-post rut, can get some activity, some respond aggressive, mildly some don't respond at all.
