goign to move to gillettt this weekend. looking for any public land to start scouting on

I'd go to the G&F and get some maps and talk to them. They'd know which direction to point you in.

When I've hunted there in the past we found that most of the land to the North, south, and east of town were private ( there are small section of public mixed in). there was a lot more public land to the west (powder river area), but not nearly as many antelope. PM me if you have any specific questions and I'll see if I can help.

Good luck,

Hey, Green--
First year I lived here--early 90's--my most valuable adjustment for going Res. in my 2nd year was to bump my search radius from initially 30-40 miles out to 100 miles out. Turned out the Public land opportunities, esp. for Deer and Lope, availed desirable Hunt destinations--rule of thumb that still holds today, in my ever-so-humble opinion.
