Looking for any advice on mule deer numbers in the area west of wickenburg and north of alamo lake. I have never speent much time in this area just wondering does it hold many deer. Just looking for a place that holds some deer. Is this area worth putting in alot of time scouting for a Dec/Jan bow hunt.

Thanks in advance.

The area you are asking about can be a very dissapointing hunt based on my knowledge but on the other hand it could be one of the most rewarding hunts. I have hunted out west a good portion of my life and i can tell you first hand that i have had days where i see a ton of deer and i have had days were i dont see any deer. Proper optics and getting familiar with water sources and getting to know the terrain will help you...

Thanks for the response. I have hunted unit 21 the last 2 years, seen some deer but thinking about hunting a diffrent area with less pressure. Sounds like I may have to take a little drive and do some glassing.

Hunting this area for mule deer takes a few days or several of scouting. My experience hunting in this area is a person can look all over the unit and get discouraged real fast from not seeing any deer, then you can find one small area or canyon where it seems the deer are bunched up and all over. This is a unit I recommend glassing real hard. Look for any pockets of good food source from the summer rains etc.

I was looking at a few maps today, just wondering about opinions in unit 44A. Also if I decide to hunt this area what are the javelina numbers like in this unit.I may as well put in for a pig tag come fall. Any thoughts, opinions, starting points would be helpfull. I am not looking to take over anyones area, just looking for a place to start scouting.
Thanks in advance.
