LAST EDITED ON May-03-13 AT 10:31AM (MST)[p]Fantastic to see these kids involved and getting hooked. We had 26 kids at our weekend activities that my NWTF Chapter puts on every Spring at Fort Custer near Battle Creek. 8 got their first bird ever. The kid I took out last year came back and got another 2 bearded longbeard just like he did last year when he was with me. What are the chances of that?!!! One little red haired kid that wasn't even close to as tall as his shotgun went out on his first hunt ever for anything and got a monster bird Saturday morning with a 10 1/2 inch beard. I've never seen a smile so big on anybody!!!

Very AWESOME! Beautiful bird! looks like a bow and a shotgun behind him what did he use?

Also just out of curiosity whats the age limit on turkey hunting? I didnt realize 9 year olds could get a tag that is cool!

Well, here's the rest of the story,
Had two shots with his bow last Fryday, 2nd arrow TOOK FEATHERS off...

Today, sailed another arrow over his back at 30 yards.
The bird was about to go out of range up the hill so my boy
grabbed the shotgun and rolled it at 38 yards.....

I'm letting him have a full mount, you can see thr chest feathers
perfectly grazed off were the arrow went through him strutting
last week.....Heck, it will be a hell of a story when he's 50..Wink ;-)

Congratulations, that's a nice bird and an awesome experience for your son. Enjoy every day hunting with your kids, they'll grow up faster than you realize.

Impressive and a great picture!

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer?

Goofy,

I have a seven year old who is non stop bugging me about when he gets to shoot. Its been a while(28yrs) since i did hunters safety, how did yours do with the written part of the test? I was thinking next summer we would go take hunters safety. He can easily pass the shooting test, but the written I wonder about just do to his age. How did you feel about this?

LAST EDITED ON May-04-13 AT 12:10PM (MST)[p]Hoss, That boy took/did huters safety at 8. I actulaly used the
hunters safety hand book to teach him to read BETTER!

That was part of the deal, learn to read, get hunters safety
done, and be able to hunt ....

That said, the hunters safty test is a BIT TRICKY ...
while my boy knew the correct ansewers, some of the wording
on the test queastons are hard to understand for a young person.

We did the safty course with the guys at Sportsmans in Provo,
GREAT to work with young kids...They let me help my boy read,
and understand the queaston corcectly with my boy, and let him
pick the answers......WORKED GREAT!

Hope this helps Hoss...
