Just like many of us hunting has been a passion since we could walk. Also just like many of us, we could eat whatever we wanted growing up and that's what I thought I could do when I got married as well. I was dead wrong! Over the last 10 years I packed on an extra 30 pounds which made it hard to get up the mountain to say the least. This is a pic of a buck I got lucky on in 2010 while still carrying the weight.
During this time, my first son was born. We found out he has Down syndrome. He has been such a huge blessing in my life, but I've learned many do not understand or completely appreciate those with special needs.
So, seeing how I needed to drop 30 pounds for health and hunting reasons and having the love I do for my son, I decided to incorporate the two together and do something about it.
I signed up for a full Ironman. I'm happy to say, I got it done last month!
In training for this race, I also made a 90 second video about me and my son and many children who have Down syndrome who are stuck in orphanages across the world. I've entered this video into a competition that could give me a chance to race in the Ironman World Championship in October (yea, I know, bad timing) as well as share these childrens story with the world on the Ironman's National NBC broadcast. You can watch and vote (lower left hand corner of video)as much as you like over the next two weeks here:

It's been a crazy experience so far, but one I'm glad I did. Now that the race is over, I hope to go find another one of these bad boys in the next few weeks before the season closes.
