Well, my opening day of the general deer here in N. Utah didn't go as expected. Big bucks were seen, with one in the cross hairs but the trigger wasn't pulled due to low light in the morning not being able to see how big of a 4 point he was. He gave me the slip before I could get the right angle on his rack. As the morning progressed, we saw search and rescue bailing off the top above us looking for someone after light. At 11:00 am dad and I headed up the canyon to find a spot for the evening hunt. I stopped on a point to glass a deep canyon. Right after I turned the atv off I heard a faint cry for hrlp down below me. I thought a kid had gotten separated from his dad and was too tired to climb out of that hell hole. I ran down the ridge to see what they needed and ran into a 16 year old girl that was beat to heck! I asked her what happened and she said she and her friend rolled their truck off the road and her freind was still down under the truck. I helped her up to the road, dad called 911 and I headed back down to the truck not knowing what I was going to find. When I got there, I found a 17 year old boy laying underneath the truck ALIVE! He could not move or talk so I just kept talking to him to let him know the worst was over and gave him encouragement to keep fighting through it until the rescue crew arrived. Two other hunters came down and we covered him up to keep him warm. Not much we could do until the medics got there. He ended up being life flighted from the scene. Take a look at the pics and tell me what you think. I have no clue how they both survive that roll and I can't beleive the truck stopped rolling whar it did! There was nothing holding that truck back from going another 1000 yards or so. Had it not stopped there, they would have died for sure!
This is what they rolled down
Another pic of the roll path, you can see the truck down lower.
This is where I found the kid laying under the truck.
Here is the boys ride out.
Again, not what I expected to do on the opener up farmington canyon. But glad to be in the right place at the right time. Apparently they rolled before sun-up and we didn't discove them until 11:15 am. Search and rescue got a call from a hunter that thought they heard some one yelling for help in the dark but did not know where the voice was comming from that is why the rescue crew did not find them, they were searching in the wrong canyon.
