I posted this in another thread about dead heads but figured I would start my own thread here.
Well I finally got my elk head back, it took a little longer than I would have liked, about a month and a half, but I am happy other than the fact that they skull capped it so I cant do a European mount with it now.
I found this bull still alive but just barely he couldn't stand and really wouldn't even open his eyes, and would just rock his head from side to side. I called the DWR to see if they could send someone out to put him down, or get permission to do it myself but they wouldn't let me and an officer wasn't going to be able to make it until later that evening. I had to leave him their to die a slow death.
I came back several hours later to check on him and he was dead. The officer didn't make it out to him until well after dark.
Here is a couple more photos, the officer figured he was just a super old bull that got to old to eat as his teeth were really worn down.
He is a 5xspike and the spike is 41"s long.
