National Conservation Area

What are the restrictions for a National Conservation Area in Colorado? Is there any hunting? Any motorized vehicles?

If your talking about a National Park. You can't hunt in them. You can drive on there roads but you may have to have a parks pass.

Bragabit,
National Conservation Area is a specially designated area on BLM land. It is different than a wilderness area and restrictions vary according to each area.

If you are talking about the Dominguez-Escalante NCA call the BLM office in Montrose and theyll give you the info.

Hunting IS ALLOWED in that particular area but check on each area with the BLM office.

I am talking about the Colorado Canyons National Conservation area in Unit 40.
Unit 40 seem to have a little bit of it all.
National Monument which I am sure you cannot hunt.
Wilderness Area which you can hunt but no motorized vehicles.
Wilderness Study area which you can hunt, drive on designated roads.
National Conservation Area which I have never heard of.
Private land
Regular BLM

You've got it right. National Conservation Areas are kind've like the BLM's version of Wilderness Study Areas. Limited to designated roads for motor vechicle travel, limited amount of natural resource extraction.

Often found adjacent to National Parks/Monuments with the intention to provide a buffer. I'm sure there are exceptions, but hunting is almost always allowed in those areas.

Much of the good deer/elk habitat in Unit 40 is private, but one can still find good public lands if he works at it.

There are some big bucks in that unit.

Of course, if you ever draw a desert bighorn, you'll find the sheep mostly on the BLM ground..........
