I am new to Colorado, moved from Utah, where I bow hunted muleys and elk for almost 10 years. I am in the Denver area and was hoping that someone can point me in the direction of some good areas to not only hunt, but hike, fish, shed hunt, etc. I will not be hunting this year, but will have 3 bonus points next year. I would like to start scouting out areas and get an idea of the terrain. I am used to hunting muleys in the high-country and back pack in. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks MMM

Welcome! You'll find lots of hiking and fishing opportunities within 1 1/2 hours of where you're at. Next year, with 3 points as a resident, you'll have most of the state to hunt deer. Pretty much depends on what type of terrain you like to hunt. You can archery elk hunt every year in OTC areas within an hour of Denver. Good luck on someone telling you where to shed hunt! Sorry so vague, but there are tons of outdoor opportunities very close to Denver.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-08-11 AT 10:53PM (MST)[p]Welcome, you will find plenty of recreation close to Denver
(1 hour or less & only 2 hours to Avon & Vail) with 3 points you have a good chance at some good tags.

For a bowhunter, I believe most front range units are limited draw vs OTC so I think the 1 hour time might be a bit of a stretch but 2 hours gives you a lot more choices. I'm sure you'll find that a good general rule of thumb is that if you're at least an hour from most roads you'll have limited crowding in most cases.
