LAST EDITED ON May-17-19 AT 09:40PM (MST)[p]Congrats sheadhead. My first sheep hunt was a mind blower, and I've been inflicted ever since.
You can make your hunt an adventure or you can just go shoot a sheep. If it were my tag, I'd spend as much time as I could getting to know the place and where the sheep hang. I'd also plan as much time as you can afford just enjoying the experience. Sheep hunts are rare indeed.
You won't likely find any monster rams on the Newfys. They skimmed off the cream many years ago, and Cali's just don't get that big anyway. But if you put in there, you probably aren't looking for numbers.
I would suggest you look at as many pictures of Cali rams as you can so you know what a good sheep looks like. It takes a bit of practice to know what's good and what isn't. Age and mass are king when it comes to good sheep. Old Utah Cali's are usually broomed back and heavy so usually rams with lamb tips are young.
That mountain holds lots of sheep so I'd not be in a rush just to shoot one and get out of there. The rut will be on while your there and watching rams but heads is a rush, in and of itself. That's my advice, for what it is worth.
I've not hunted the unit but I will very likely be out there in a few weeks and I'll be glad to pass on any info I get from that trip if you would like.
Good on you man and best of luck.
