There has been NO cancellations of the 2020 New Mexico big game public land hunts! Someone has been spreading inaccurate information on social media claiming all public land hunts have been cancelled by the Department of Game and Fish, this claim is FALSE!

They did the same thing in Texas with the TPWD logo, but said all lakes are closed indefinitely. Lots of friends back where I grew up fell for it.?

Well our state parks are closed (thanks idiot Gov) so most of our lakes are in fact off limits right now.

Somebody did a fake Facebook post for a refuge hunt in Texas a couple of years ago and I think the refuge extended the application deadline.

I think results should be posted on the 15th. All the turkey hunters won't be checking so it won't overload the webpage.

That, and give everyone else a sense of hope for those who draw in all this zombie apocalypse stuff. Bad thing is, it will bring more despair to those of us who don't draw.

My guess is the 15th as well, it would hold the pattern of the past few years. Harvest reports for Barbary, Ibex, Javelina & Oryx aren't due till the 7th, so they can't do the draw before that. The 15th would be the next Wednesday.

Director Michael Sloane stated “the Department is working diligently to audit the draw and provide results as soon as possible for New Mexico’s hunters.”

That sounds to me like the draw is already done!?
Wish this was true. Draw can't be done before all harvest reporting is. Deadline for that's April 7th.

The draw is not done and cannot be processed until after April 7th , the deadline for all 2019-2020 oryx, barbary sheep and javalina license holders to get the mandatory harvest reports completed.Another audit session will happen after April 7th.

Something tells me the remaining harvest reports are irrelevant.
They are not irrelevant at all.If the department rejects an applicant for not completing the mandatory harvest report for deer or elk, it must also reject an applicant for not entering their javalina report.Think about it, you could be rejected for not doing your harvest report for spring turkey and your neighbor gets a pass for not entering his javalina tag?

Well hopefully gnf department will take into consideration the rough times a vast majority of NM residents are experiencing and get the refund $ back asap. Were all feeling the lack of confidence in the economy to some degree. But the majority of state employees may not feel the pain the private sector that funds this entire nation, as thier likely still getting thier usual paycheck amount coming in....
Wish you all the best in these times and the draw.
For once I can admit I'm thinking of filling freezer ever more than dreaming of that trophy opportunity.

I agree Adam. Luckily our g&f is good at quick refunds. Amongst all the craziness it's hard for me to even conjure the smallest amount of excitement. I have two seniors who are devastated , I can empathize with them , my senior year was huge. God bless all you and your family.

Irrelevent for animal nose count to set tag numbers. The couple dozen off range oryx shot in March won't have an impact next year on the 80 tags they have already allocated.

The mandatory harvest report is used as one of the tools for the department biologists to have an idea of how many animals are harvested, whether they are male or female and then the Wildlife management division looks at the number of days in the field average hunters are out and then a quality rating to the experience of the hunt.
Yes some times this data can be used when the discussion of increasing or decreasing tags happens.
The off range oryx hunts are not at all like the rest of the public land hunts, the department has these hunts to keep the oryx numbers in check, the Missle Range has their own biologists who manage the oryx numbers on range so these off range hunts keep the oryx from multiplying in high numbers, some hunts theres a bunch off the range , others they are thin and have made their way back onto federal ground. The harvest reports help the department with the data reported back especially on these off range hunts.

Ok. They matter then for them to conduct the draws.

So, how's the yard work going for everybody? Hopefully it will all payoff by not being bogged down with it when it's time to go scoutin' and fishin'!

It was either the dreaded post card of death or a nice envelope with your golden ticket to hunt. Had several of both over the years.
And then going and standing in line in downtown Santa Fe to get results early and going over the binders of tractor fed paper in alphabetic order to see if ya drew then again the 5AM line to buy a left over license....Things are way too easy these days....

Back in the day, for archery, by the time you knew there would only be 45 days until it started. So, kept shooting and organizing your equipment all through the spring and early summer so you weren't scrambling last minute.

But, you always knew you pretty much had a tag each year, if not a first choice, then a second or third with how the draw was back then.

Ah yes....the good old Viagra building.
