What are you guys doing about the new OHV sticker requirement? They are not going to be available until Jan 1 and you need an AZ Title to get one in the first place. So what are the guys heading out to AZ on 1/1 for the bow hunt supposed to do? Stop at a MVD office and waste 3 hours? No thanks. Do they not realize that beginning Jan 1 there will be thousands of hunters pulling quads into AZ from out of state? Sure makes it hard to follow the law.

I think they will probably recognize whatever the law is in your home state. When AZ started requiring registration of canoes, if you were from a state that didn't require it you were ok. This is the "educated guess" I got from a G&F law enforcement person so I wouldn't worry about it too much and just enjoy your hunt!

LAST EDITED ON Nov-26-08 AT 09:54AM (MST)[p]I don't mean to offend, but your feet won't require a sticker? That does suck though.

Right, but to get the 5-10 miles up a rough road before I start walking does require it. I drive a 3/4 ton longbed, it aint getting up some of those roads.

Talked with Az. guy in charge of OHV reg. this morning. If you are coming in from another state and are registered in that state then you do not have to get a sticker for AZ. As in CA. you have to have a green sticker to ride off road. This would be valid in AZ. for 30 days or less. So guys you are good to go!

I had two conversations with Joe Saco (sp?) over the last two days and posted all the info for NRs in this thread.

At my suggesstion, AGFD added the following to the OHV web page at http://www.azgfd.gov/outdoor_recreation/ohvFAQ.shtml#Are

The info for nonresidents is under:

SAFE, ETHICAL AND RESPONSIBLE OPERATION

Are there any OHV Decal exceptions -or- I'm from out-of-state do I need to purchase the OHV Decal?

A person may operate an all-terrain vehicle or an off-highway vehicle in Arizona without an off-highway vehicle user indicia (OHV Decal) if any of the following applies:

*The person is participating in an off-highway special event
*The person is operating an all-terrain vehicle or off-highway vehicle on private land
*The person is loading or unloading an all-terrain vehicle or off-highway vehicle from a vehicle
*During a period of emergency of if the operation is directed by a peace officer or other public authority

or

All of the following apply (For non-residents):
*The person is not a resident of Arizona.
*The person owns the vehicle
*The vehicle diplays a current off-highway vehicle user indicia or registration from the person's state of residency.
*The vehicle is not in Arizona for more than thirty (30) consecutive days.

Note: If your state does not title or register OHV's then you would be required to get an Arizona title and purchase the OHV Decal.

Can someone tell me how I go about getting a title. I am a California resident, and own a cabin outside of Flagstaff. I have a ATV I keep there. I expect I will need to get a title and tag. So I have owned this ATV for years, purchased it used, and do not have any paper work on it. Any suggestions?

I would contact the AZ MVD(www.azdot.gov/mvd)and ask. That is the agency that issues the titles and plates, not G&F.

I had a similar situation with a trailer several year ago. It was made from an old pickup truck bed and had no serial number. I had to take it to an MVD station for an inspection, and they issues a VID# and put a tag with it on the trailer tongue. I wasn then able to get the title and plate.

In your case, it might be a more of a problem. Your ATV has the serial #, but without the paperwork, you'll have to prove you legally own it, i.e. it isn't stolen. If you have any sort of receipt for your purchase, it would sure help.

Thanks for the info. I am sure it will be a long drawn out affair. No, I have absolutely no paper work. It was purchased many years ago (it is a 1984), and the person I purchased it from moved out of state and I have no further contact with them. In fact it was because they were moving that they sold it. Oh well I will begin the processs and keep my fingers crossed that it won't be that bad.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-02-08 AT 04:25PM (MST)[p]I made a quick call to ADOT. Gal said you're going to have to get a "bonded" title, which means also getting a Level I inspection done on the OHV. This is the same thing I had to do with the trailer.

Flagstaff Office:

1851 S. Milton
Flagstaff
86001

From the ADOT web site:

17) How do I apply for a bonded title?

Go to any MVD office, request the procedures for a bonded title and obtain a vehicle inspection. There will likely be additional documents needed and steps to follow, which may vary with each situation.
