Nv. 231 / 212-223

My son and I have a chance of drawing deer tags in one of these areas. There are new wilderness areas in these units. One in 221-223 and I believe three in 231. What does that do to asscessibility for the do it yourself types? Is the pressure outside the wilderness greater as a result? Were not afraid to backpack if necessary but would prefer to set a base camp for better mobility. With fuel prices becoming a problem scouting is probably not an option this time around. Sugestions and or any help from those who know the country or have hunted these units would be appreciated. Thanks, Sourkraut

i dont know about 23, but i do know the meat of 22 has been made wilderness. the main roads down cave valley are still accessible and from there it is easy to set up a base camp and go from there where you wish. also, the southern end of 22 like muleshoe are still open and not wilderness. i think this is a spot worth checking but so does every other hunter with a tag. if you draw the late hunt however there wont be anyone else there.

Sourkraut, my Dad and I drew this tag (221-223) last year and had a great time. We both filled our tags within three days on decent bucks. As mentioned alot of this unit has been turned into wilderness area which isn't all that bad, especially if you are willing to get out and work for a nice buck. Good Luck!
