I have 10 nr elk pts this year. I am 65 years young and don't get around like I used to, so I am looking to cash in before it is too late. I am looking at five different hunts that I might have a chance to draw.
Beaver late
southwest desert late
Fishlake late
West Desert
Fillmore Oak Cr.
I am looking for any advise or suggestions I can get. I can not make up my mind so I need help. I am not looking for a 400 bull just a decent bull over 320.

I would say SWD or beaver off that list. Fishlake or West Desert would not be bad either.

It would help you odds going to archery or even muzzleloader . Rifle tag odds on some of the less popular units are still pretty high.

Yes it is rifle. I do not archery or muzzy hunt so I am stuck with rifle.
The odds in SW desert late are not that good but it looks like I could have a good chance to draw West Desert or Fishlake.
I really like SW desert but it looks like it might take a few more years. If I was ten years younger I would wait.

My father was in the same boat as you in 2001. We noticed they had changed the muzzle loader hunt into the rut. So we put him in for indian peaks (sw desert) muzzleloader tag and he drew. It was his first muzzle loader hunt, but he did fine. Muzzle loaders are not that differn't than rifle hunting and the rut should help you bring them in close.
He missed the first shot at 35 yards .But we stopped the bull again at 75 yards and he connected. He got a nice 7 x 7 bull in the 320 area.
If you mix it up a bit you will have better odds. I know some old guys here in town that have been putting in for the peaks rifle all of thier lifes. But the odds just aren't there. You may get lucky ? You never know.

I checked the draw odds for SW desert and a muzzy tag will take as many points as the late hunt.
