Well after years of switching between the rile and archery hunt for elk. This year I was able to connect with my first bull elk (WAHOOOOOO). Spent this spring building my rifle and building the perfect load for it. After tons of time and rounds fired in the field I have my gun and MOA chart exact all the way out to a 1000 yards ( again WAHOOOOO!). I'm shooting a Winchester Mod 70 in 300WSM. I hand load 210gr Berger VLDs and love the performance of their bullets. Enough of that get to the hunt right! Well Me and my two brother in-laws went out early openers morning got to where we wanted to be before sunlight and waited............ After glassing for quite a while we decided to get on the move and cross a couple ridges only to see some does, Fawns and some Moose. We made a plan to get to another spot and began to head back to the Polaris Ranger. On the way back we split up and when I got to the ridge where we started I heard something running towards me. At a glance I seen brown then his antlers. At 125 yards i got my scope on him and made my shot land in the boiler room. After he went down the excitement was on. A big thanks to my brother in-laws Seth and Terrance for their help. Me and my wife also got lucky last winter and was able to kill two cow elk on our late season cow tags. The wife and I both shot our elk at 300 yards and they dropped with one shot. Thanks to Zach, Seth,Terrance, Wayne, Billy and Justin for their help getting the cows out of the DEEP snow. Thanks to all of you for letting us post our trophy's along with all of yours!
Good luck and we will see you out there!
