Its been a long time since I have hunted pheasants. I may give it a whirl this year. I remember that the official starting time used to be 8:00 the first morning. I just looked in the regulations and can not see anything that states this to be the rule. Can anybody tell me the rule for sure? Thanks

30 minutes before official sunrise. Ends one half hour after official sunset.. On page 42 of the guide book.

But Idaho does

Haven't hunted Utah for 15 years for pheasants. This state just doesn't like them.

Thanks, I found the time of a half hour before sunrise in the guide book, but I remember it used to be 8:00 when I last hunted, so I wanted to be 100% sure.

Wow
No wonder you guys don't have any birds, with that early start they are still up on the roads/out in the open fields getting some grit,
In SD it a noon start for the first 2 weeks then it drops to a 10:00 start the rest of the season.

We scout out where the birds are by driving around at daybreak and see where the most are on the roads or out in the field at that time, then come back later and hunt the nearest cover for them.

Headed back to South Dakota in 7 days. Truck is half packed LOL

only had about 25 min before dark, would have limited out again but I did not trust my dog on the 1st rooster she pointed. the 2nd was not so lucky. nothing like hunting from the house from my Rhino. I have put in a total of about 3 hours in the field and have 5 roosters in the bag
