It was a good year for us. The application season has us dreaming about 2016 already.

Here are some of the successful hunts that took place in my house. My boys was able to harvest his first big game animal on his deer hunt. I was fortunate enough to be able to harvest an antelope, elk and a deer with my bow. I had a bow ibex tag back in October, though unsuccessful in harvesting a ibex the hunt was a truly amazing experience. This January I was able to harvest a deer with my bow. although he wasn't a trophy he was able provide meat in the freezer. We will see what next month has in-store for us as I have a Barbary tag and my oldest boy and me will be heading to the boot heal and try and fill a couple javelin tags.

Started off the year with a Gila gobbler. Was the first Spring hunt that my oldest son tagged along. Had a good day fishing back in May. Did some shooting to prepare for Fall. Mule deer was taken in Colorado with some good friends in October. Fall turkey in the Gila in November and my daughter got it done again on the Youth Incentive hunt in 16A after Thanksgiving. Good year!

LAST EDITED ON Jan-15-16 AT 09:30AM (MST)[p]2015 was one of our best years, we did kinda blow it on our 3 deer tags, but, there is next year.

Went fishing in Alaska, had not been there since 1990. Hope to go again sooner than 25 years next time.

5679dscn1180.jpg

Hunting started off with off range oryx for my son.

2751dscn1253.jpg

Next was Zach's Valle Caldera archery bull. What an experience.

4406dscn1279.jpg

Then he had his AZ archery elk hunt. Took 5 days before we figured it out.

9107dscn1326.jpg

This was the highlight of my year. MT mountain goat. 14 years of applying. Got some good suggestions from folks on this site, and I cant thank my son enough for his help, Could not have done it with out his help.

6515dscn1346.jpg

My rifle bull. Just got real lucky on a small ranch.

242dscn1372.jpg

Helped a friend with a local deer hunt. Trying to convert him from ducks to bucks.

1183dscn1399.jpg

Got into some wild pigs. Killed 5 pigs between my son and I in about 3 minutes. Best pork I have eaten.

819dscn1405.jpg

3 more, we could not get them all in the same spot for a "family" photo.

2115dscn1414.jpg

Our first ever Coues hunt. In AZ. Gonna be doing this again for sure. Loads of fun. Between weather and running out of time he got this buck. But, passed on a couple a little better.

Nest up barbary in feb. Cant beat NM.

only one critter from NM since I moved to ID. but whacked my ID general season buck, Kodiak AK caribou and an almost book Sitka blacktail.

That is a damn nice Sitka!!

No pics for me this year. I put what I thought were 2 well placed arrows in the biggest 5x5 bull I've ever seen, and never found him.

I also screwed up on what I thought to be a smaller bedded muley buck and turned out to be a monster Coues. Didn't see the 3rd buck that blew the stalk, and didn't snap that they were Coues until they were up and moving. Would have probably approached a lot differently/cautiously knowing that they were what they were.

Now I'm just hoping the draw is good to me; getting setup with a new bow, so I probably won't draw this year...

Congrats, all great animals! Can't get much better than that! Where's the Sitka pic? I'm assuming that last one is the muley from ID right?

Travis

Great photos. I had already posted all of mine under the General Forum but most of them are from New Mexico so I better at least put the link here. The antelope, Oryx, and elk are all from New Mexico. If I had to live any other place, it would be New Mexico. The photos will explain why I prefer to stay in Iowa though and visit New Mexico every chance I get.

Dang those are some big pigs Paul!

Highlights for me; Shiras bull in Montana,

528p1010669red.jpg

my grandson finally getting his first big game animal,

7920p1010778red2.jpg

and a "trophy" duck I've been chasing all my life (Mallard X Pintail hybrid).

9648p1010732red.jpg

Biggest disappointment was screwing up a few chances on elk.

I was blessed with a wonderful year yet again.

Started off in January doing my annual 1 or 2 day total duck hunting. I'm a casual duck hunter just looking for an excuse to get out. haha

Dad and I went Barbary hunting the first week of Feb. Didn't see a sheep for 4 straight days! Finally found a small band on my last day. They were all small but I was able to fill my tag after a VERY long stalk.

Did find a couple hours during the Barb hunt to chase some quail around camp.

Late Feb I got to help out a friend get his first Oryx.

100_1747_zpscfbtyv7r.jpg

Spring time found us chasing Thunder chickens. After 5 years of trying I was finally able to get my first Rio Grande bird. We also caught a couple nice cats in the process.

Got a picture of some bighorns on the Gorge on the way to Red River to do some fishing.

After not having a Pronghorn tag since 2003, me and a buddy drew the Muzzy 52 hunt. I had a blast and got my best buck yet, right at 79.

Got out to the Grouse woods for a day. Got a couple and a band-tail pigeon as well.

Late October found me down in the Gila chasing elk. Got my biggest bull to date, 345. Can't remember being that excited in my life! My buddy was able to fill his tag the last day as well. Amazing trip.

Last trip of the year was late Nov down to Portales area looking for my first NM Bobwhite quail. Had never even seen one in NM before. After screwing up on the first covey I found, I was able to bag one from the second covey. I guess I pulled the trigger a little quick when they flushed as I shot his head off and couldn't find it. haha Never did that before. Learned Bob's are almost impossible to hunt without a dog, but had a great time.

There is a story behind this nut. Stomper is the only guy I have ever gone hunting with that just randomly takes his shirt off.
We are on his off range oryx hunt, he kills a nice oryx. I go to get the truck and I show up and he is wondering around like a raving lunatic with no shirt. He has managed to lose my knife, it looks like he tried to eat the oryx while I was gone.
I was concerned for my safety. I just agreed with everything he said until we got to allsups. There I escaped and called my wife to pick me up.
Well the first part at least is true.
Heat stroke or not. I am not taking my shirt off in public. I dont need people pointing at me and laughing.

Outstanding year Paul!!! Quick question for ya!?! Looks like you had successes with the bow cover cow decoy , does it really work that good or?

Yes, I am convinced they make a difference. I really do believe that they will buy you some extra time in the right situation.
I am betting they would be good for elk deer and antelope.

geez paul! i bought u some dang nice replacement knives. i just havent had the opportunity to get back up there and get them to you.

and yeah i was wondering why it seemed like you were so eager to bail out of my truck. u had that look of a kid trapped in a room with a pedophile.

heck i think i brought over all 6 kids the next day who destroyed half ur garden, rearranged every skull u had on ur property while at the same time my wife and myself completely trashed ur meat butchering facility cutting up that oryx.

i guess im somewhere of a cross between cousin eddy on the national lampoons christmas vacation and a horror movie villan.

Yea, my "Gaydar" was going full blast when we got back to the truck with your shirt off. You had me scared. I guess a spa day, pedicure and a couple hours in a tanning bed and you were good again.

one last picture of me with my kids. their kinda the center of my life. to say im proud of them is an understatement.

8414image.jpg

Stomper that Bull Elephant is hugh probably one of last ones, how old do think that Bull is?,took a lots of years of hunter conservation to get tusks like that.

that ele was around 55 years old. it was the last elephant shot in botswana. when i left that hunt elephant was closed in botswana permanently. regretably with the close of elephant hunting all locals became unemployed. for jobs they turned to the chinese black market ivory trade. those elephants are now being poached relentlessly. congrats to the anti hunters they are succeeding in killing every last animal in africa

Great animals and stories! All I had in 2015 was a great antelope hunt and a lot of missed chances on my elk hunt. Called in several bulls, but swirling wind was tough! Almost got my first bear, but the wind decided wasn't my year, but what an experience to be 25-yards from a bug bore.

15 was a special year for a number of reasons. Some good, some bad. We were blessed in the draw this year with a number of tags. It started with a Barbary tag, we chased a giant ram but he crossed into private and we never turned him up again. My boys got me out fishing quite a bit.
2781img3697.jpg

Finally fall! Started with a bear hunt on the Philmont Ranch with a good friend. With all the rain this year the bears were really spread out. After 3 days we caught up with this guy.
6788img4147.jpg

Kinda ratty with that summer hair but a good bear none the less. Next was my antelope hunt. Took me 23 years to draw a tag, my third choice, slotted on a ranch in the NE near Des Moines. Lots of goats, just nothing real big. Fun hunt...
7264img4172.jpg

4403img4188.jpg

Next was my elk hunt. I used up all my luck on this hunt. I was on my way to kill this bull
7141img4512.jpg

And my good buddy told me to lay off the gun because there was a bigger bull walking to this bull. So I did and boy was I glad I did...

5680img0098.jpg

I am very blessed to have taken such a special animal. He officially scored 414 6/8 gross, 400 2/8 net non-typ. Next was an equally special hunt for me and my son. We both drew the middle rifle hunt in 2B. His first deer hunt in NM. Needless to say we were not trophy hunting, we just wanted to give him a good opportunity at a legal buck. I had found a couple of small bucks for him to hunt first morning but the fog had different plans
5750img4584.jpg

Had to carve a pumpkin for Halloween
1994img4582.jpg

Next morning a baby buck was the victim! He was so excited, he made a great shot. We found out the hard way that he was way allergic to deer dander!! Poor guy swelled up so bad, I was nervous, so I gutted his buck quickly and took him to urgent care in Farmington.
1294img4636.jpg

5822img4631.jpg

After a steroid shot, we were back up the mountain. That evening he stayed at camp with my dad, I could have shot a 150ish buck but I wanted him with me so I passed. Next morning he was still a little sickly so we decided to hunt the morning and pack up. He was my guide, found my little buck, ranged him for me, set up my sticks and videoed, I gave this little guy every opportunity to live...
4441fullsizerender1.jpg

Totally worth it! He was so proud that he guided me, and that we both shot bucks. Next we went to Canada for Moose and Whitetail with a couple of good friends.
2088img4721.jpg

Some of these mixed in

4361img4772.jpg

Next was our annual trip to Texas. Got rained out, 6 inches while we were there, river came up so high we couldn't access most of the ranch, but we managed to fill the freezers

Congrats everyone!

My family went 4/6. My wife had a deer tag that we didn't harvest and I broke my arm 3 days before my archery deer hunt. I still went on my archery hunt and tried using a drawloc on my bow, but it just got too hard on me with the broken arm.

Nice Antelope and the others!a great year you had hunting with all of your Family, New Mexico is my favorite State to hunt.

Elksniper, always top quality photos. Great year.

Joe, yep Stomper is one in the same, a nicer, new, more feminine and improved version.

Elksniper, as always great pictures, I really love the second photo of you little sister. That look is priceless. Tell your dad I said hello.

Since I'm seeing a few non-New Mexico photos I though I'd add a few free range exotics I've collected in Texas the last couple years. I hunt in the hill country every summer while waiting for the fall. Nothing like hunting/fishing and cooking great meals with friends and family! Great topic, thanks for sharing guys!
