What powders do you use with 280 rem.

I am going to test some hornady sst 139 gr. bullets would like to hear the loads you guys like with similar weight bullets.

Thanks

IMR 4350 has worked the best in my 280. I have tried 4831, both makes, and numerous others. But 4350 give best performance out of my 700 BDL. 22" barrel.

rl 22 max load. had too change his bullet to a accubond he shot two deer with a hornady sst 140 and literaly blew the off shoulder completly off . only hide was holding it on ! devistating load and the accuracy was well within m.o.a. however

In a standard chamber,

IMR 4350, or IMR 4831.

The OLD Hornady load was
57 grains of IMR 4350 over
a 140ish bullet.

This is a HOT load.

I load 56 in my stuff.

IMR 4831 is also VERY good.

57ish grains of that over a
140ish bullet is a Great load.

Either, are Perfect .280 stuff.

max load for 280 rem. according to hornady with 139 sst with imr4350 is 53.7 . max load for imr4831 is 55.1. I would also consider h4350. either 4350 would be a good place to start. ce61

I am using reloader19 in mine behind 140 accubonds. just under 1/2" groups. I dont know the velocity.
O--one
B--big
A--ass
M--mistake
A--america

Muzz,

The 140 grain Accubonds are
the best thing to come down
the pike.

Maybe, the perfect .280 bullet.

CE - don't forget that published loads are well under SAAMI specs for modern rifles since the cartridge was originally designed for the semi-auto Remington.

The .280 can be loaded to .270 pressures but each individual will have know his own rifles limitations and should always look for pressure signs like we all do every time we try a new load.

Spencer, the 280 rem came out in 1957. my dad bought a 740 in 1957 in 280. that was 54 years ago. if you look on hodgdon's website and look at the 280 with a 140 grain with h4350 53.5 is a max load with 48500 pressure, 2918 fps.
a 270 win. with 140 grain and h4350 52.0 is max load with 50,400 pressure, 2870 fps.
that is 1900 lbs of pressure or 3.77 % more for the 270.48000 to 50000 is a common pressure for these 2 cartridges.
I don't think that 280 loads in manuals are on the wimpy side because the gun started out as a autoloader 54 years ago. the pressure is pretty close to the 270. If anyone wants to load higher than max, like 2 and 1/2 grains over, I would tell them to start low and work their way up, probobly the same as you. ce61
