Preference Point question

If you are unsuccessful in the draw back in January, do you still get a preference point. I did not draw this year for the elk hunt I put in for, but I was still able to purchase a preference point. Am I missing something? Did I maybe not put preference point if I don't draw on the application? Not sure, or maybe you get a point and can still buy a point. Was hoping someone could clarify for me. Thanks.

You are no longer able to purchase the point at the time of application if unsuccessful. Apparently it was too complicated for some... so now you have to purchase them during the July to October period after the draws are completed.

They changed it this year and you have to apply by the end of October for a preference point. You have no choice for an preference point with the application. Can't understand why they changed it?

Most of their nr customers were unable to understand how the process worked.
