Questions on CO Elk Hunting

First, let me say I've been lurking for a while and this is a great site. I am researching a 2008 hunt and have a couple of questions for everyone.

1. Are there any CO records that show which units produce the most say 250-280in bulls?
2. Who and how would you contact in the DOW for questions about specific GMUs?
3. Does anyone know any reputable packers close to Dolores or Durango?

It sounds like you are already interested in the southwest corner of the state. It is a large elk herd with plenty of bulls and a gorgeous area to hunt. Contact the local biologist for the area plus area game wardens, just make sure you ask them specific questions. Contact the San Juan forest office and ask them for a list of packers that are registered to work on the national forest. This applies to anywhere in the state. The CDOW website has a ton of info on stats, amount of hunters, etc., that should be the first place you start. Good luck on your research.
