I just got back from the Antler rendezvous in Alpine Wyo. There were antler dealers from all over the country selling , buying and trading. The big antler buyers that I talked to said that they used to buy double what had showed up this year at the show. Brown Elk was going for 13.50 a pound. There were a lot of big farm raised White Tails, these big racks were bringing between 6000.00 and 8000.00 six years ago, today they go for around 2000.00. Big Alaskan single Moose Antlers we're selling for 600.00 to 800.00. The big Mule Deer Racks, over 200 inches and the big Mule Deer Sheds were selling for top dollars, price to be determined by seller. I saw these big Mule Deer racks, let's say 205 to 245 inch racks were going for 1500.00 to 5000.00 and they were trading hands quickly. I scored a great Idaho Bull that scored 382 that sold for a 1000.00. I met a lot of great people over there and had a good time. I am going back today and then going to Jackson for the Boy Scout Antler Auction on Saturday. I told my wife and daughters that there are a lot of Antler addicts over in Alpine Wyoming right now, they all piped up at the same time and told me that I have an Antler problem myself. When I get back from Jackson I will let you how it went.

I suspect that some of the weekend warriors are taking away from the guys that do this for the CASH only. BUT, cash is always king and many many antlers are still being sold.

Thanks Guys!

And HAWKBILL!

I Could kinda see things tapering off the last few years!

I Wonder how many people see the Big Picture?

This year has been tougher for me based on the fact that bulls held on much later that previous years. When they finally were dropping they were spread from the top of the mountain to the valley. Previous years I've been able to watch bulls and the majority dropped around the same time and within the same general area. This year they weren't concentrated. Still plenty of bone out there if you put the miles on.

Just got back from Jackson Boy Scout Antler Auction- I have not been in many years and this year was no disappointment if you like Antlers. Prices were high but there were a lot of deals being made by all the street venders. Massive farm raised bulls, wild dead head bulls selling between 300.00 to 3000.00, matched sets of brown Elk sheds 320 to 350 bring 600.00 to 800.00. One of the coolest things I saw was a locked up set of Alaskan Moose Deadheads it sold for 20,000.00. Big Mule Deer were tops ranging anywhere from 2000.00 to 6000.00. I saw a big set Mule Dear Sheds sell let's say 220 class sell for three times as much as a 170 class Bighorn Sheep Deadhead . I actually could have bought a 40? stone sheep and a 39? Dall sheep shoulders mounts for 600.00 apiece. There does not seem to be much value in sheep right now. The nicest looking sheds from Elk I saw came out of Washington nice large horns with beautiful color. Now for the Boy Scout Auction the first item up was 6 rights, 6 pts.,small antler bundle,16 pounds, this went for 26.00 a pound= 416.00. There were a 123 lots being auctioned off. If I average the first 32 lots it seems to be around 17.50 a pound. Lot 33, 6 by 6 medium match pair at 16 pounds went for 40.00 a pound. That's when my daughter and I got up and headed to Yellowstone, I won't bore you with Yellowstone but I saw something I have never seen in the wild. My daughter and I saw a Chinese man get gored by a Buffalo. Now this might also blow your mind, Google- Jackson Hole China

You are absolutely right, I went by several large groups of photographers and saw some lenses that were 2 to 3 feet long and the Buffalo were within 50 yards of the road. I saw one old man with a cowboy hat on and he had a little old Swarovski spotter pointed up hi high on a Mountain Peak and I new he was watching a Grizz. We pulled over and he was just happy to talk to us, my daughter got to see her first two Grizzlys. Getting back to sheds, might buddies who are serious shed collectors, seem to be picking up plenty of bone, no pictures on face book, Instagram,or any social media, very tight lipped except for our circle and no one is selling right now.

We did it because of the money to be had....not no more...too many people and they are tickled to find one antler on their own...My wife has nick- named me GERATOL...Ole One a day..3 times a horseback and found one antler...I've got better things to do now...Like metal Detecting with my new pack donkey..besides fishing at Fontenelle...

Definitely don't pick up what I used to. Never did it for money, but it was nice to sell a pile at the end of the season, now I sell after 2 or 3. Still love to get out as often as possible but I never have great expectations anymore. And forget about scouting in the winter, waste of time and gas, it doesn't matter now when guys start walking in January, everything gets chased and scattered until April. My buddy said it best ?25 years ago the reality was better than the idea, now the idea is better that the reality
