I'm wanting to build a new shooting bench. I want it to be heavy duty. I'm not into light and compact. If any of you have pictures that you want to share I would love to see some ideas.

It's always an adventure!!!

here's mine.....

I dont have any pictures handy. No assembly required for this one. I use a metal teachers desk. Its heavy, stable, and a big platform to shot from. And if needed plenty of room for shooting crap to sit there handy or set up a spotting scope. Plus the chores can come in handy to put odds and ends in.

LOL...my thoughts exactly... I'd hate to be the one walking around the corner...

I was wondering about that too! I thought JB might have even been fishing for comments. I was thinking something of a sign saying the range is HOT!!!

I was shooting my bow one day in the yard with a similar blind corner and after a few rounds I got to thinking about it and changed where I shot from.

Cool range though, hey invite zigga over to shoot and leave the sign down.

Just kidding, I just know how friendly you guys are.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-14-12 AT 09:23AM (MST)[p]I don't have any pictures, but this is how I built mine.

I cut out four pieces of 3/4" MDF and sandwiched them together, then covered it with bed liner. On the bottom I put 4 1.5" pipe flanges.

Then I dug 4 holes, put a cinder block in each one, along with a 2' X 1.5" nipple. Poured some concrete. Waited three weeks because I thought I ruptured a disk in my back...nope, it was a kidney stone.

Between the nipples and the union, I sandwiched (I forget how tall) some pipe and a union.

Then went shooting. Solid as it can be and I can take the top with me (I shoot on BLM land)

As a older guy, must say that even though it's no longer politically correct and in some cases not even legal, i've shot a lot of stuff, including fairly tight groups, off the hood of my rigs.

Those who are older and have shot a lot of stuff, probably have too, admit it or not.

Bull, either my legs are getting shorter or my pants are getting longer. Used to be a 34 or even a 36 length on my bootcut Lee's or Wranglers. Now, i'm scuffing up the back bottoms of my 32's!! :)

My bench is like sage and bulls except white, and like you sage pc or not I have killed many things accross the hood and shot some good groups.

Nope, none of the abovebut sounds like you been there?? :_) I Mostly just use the hood as a quick makeshift bench when testing my rifles to still be "on". Have heard of the above happening to guys but just have to shake my head in amazement that some might actually shoot holes thru their hoods. lol

Just a heads up, but in Ca it is illegal to shoot off of your hood. It's considered shooting from a vehicle and still illegal even if your on private property......Not like I give a chit, We had to tell England to F off at one time...... I still do it at least once a week even after finding out the "hardway" :)

Hardway, Interesting to say the least. One would think that on private property, he could use the hood his vehicle as a rest to shoot at a paper target. I did some digging around thru the www. and came upon this group of fellows who had occasion(s) such a bess mentioned above. Pretty funny some of it and pretty stupid some of the rest but a good read for those who might wonder, "what could possibly happen...?" Thanks!!

Venison and Zinfandel are GOOD!

I just took a workmate bench and made it a solid top and mounted my rest on it, works pretty good.
