I think it was stolen by someone who knows the value. Say a shed buyer or fellow hunter. It has happened enough in our town, and there is a guy known by many who is suspected of having done this several times. Including a head off my property.
Anti hunters would have made a seen and been bragging about it... Not to mention most would be grossed out by a head boiling etc.
