Does anyone know of a storage locker in Austin Nevada? We will be coming back from Wyoming with three deer but will be hunting in Nevada on my way back through so I need a place to store the deer while I am on that hunt. This will be a black powder hunt south of Austin around Arc Dome Wilderness. If anyone has hunted this area what is your take on it? Thanks in advance, Devlin

Austin is pretty small, I doubt there is a storage locker there. If you are coming from Wyoming, it is probablly faster to take 80 and then 95 south to Fallon anyways. Fallon is a good size city and must have a a meat locker. Austin is only a little over an hour from Fallon. Hope this helps.

Nothing in Austin but Fallon is probably your best chance of finding a storage locker. Eureka has a grocery store and meat locker there, but you should check with them ahead of time and make sure they have room for your "three deer". If you need a phone number, call the C of C office at Austin 1-775-964-2200 or in Fallon 1-866-4fallon. www.fallontourism.com
I don't know the number in Eureka but call this Motel and they should be able to give you the number of the Grocery store that is right across the street next to the Owl Cafe. The Sundown Motel is 1-775-237-5334.

I don't know which way you are coming from, but it seems to me you will be coming either on Highway 50, in which case you go thru Eureka. Or 305 from Battle Mtn. If your close to Ely, i'm sure there is someone there also. There is a butcher in Battle Mtn that should have no problem holding your deer for you, if you want it butchered he is the best around this area as far as i am concerned.....L & L Meats is the name of the place, super nice guy, will cut and wrap and flash freeze any way you want it. Battle Mtn is 90 miles North of Austin, on I-80.

That is some tough country. Very steep, good looking country. I stayed in Kingston, just south of Austin last year. I know a guide that has a locker right there. Maybe he would let you hang them. He also has a muzz tag close to there so I figure he'll be around.

Don't know about a locker, but the Arc Dome is some
sweet country, with some stud bucks. You won't just
park and shoot a deer, but if you wear out a pair of
good boots your bound to get a good buck. If I was in
your shoes I would cut up the meat and get it frozen
before you get to nevada, that way a locker or a
grocery store would be more likley to accept it.

GOOD LUCK ON THE ARC, NVMDF

LAST EDITED ON Jul-06-04 AT 08:32PM (MST)[p]Thanks Guys.I think I,m going to try and leave the deer in Fallon if I can find a place, that would be the best place for me because I,ll be going home that way .Thanks Brian for the numbers I,ll call this week.....Devlin....P.S....I,ll wear out those boots and some horse shoes also.

Don't know about Austin, but in other Nevada areas the Casinos sometimes have a refridgerated semi trailer for guests. But as I found out in Elko one year, a non-guest with a twenty is welcome also. mtmuley
