I have the STS80 Swaro Spotter and really like it. But for use in backpacking its quite bulky and heavy. I was thinking of getting rid of this one and going with the STS65. Would it pay off to do that? I know there is only a pound of difference or so, but I believe it may fit in the backpack easier. Any comments and suggestions?

Mickey, I also have the 80 and the way that I look at it is that if I'm gonna get these expensive optics in the first place then I'm gonna have the biggest baddest mofo I can get. When it comes to optics then you just gotta buckle down and carry them. To be honest with you though, I have contemplated the same question. I think I'll try to get a lighter tripod first. fatrooster.
