SW Oregon rut is when?

I'm hunting Josephine county for the first time this year. When does the rut start? Will they be beginning to rut before the season closes? I'm hoping to try some rutting techniques for the first time.

blacktail rut in oregon usually peaks right around thanksgiving. depending on the weather the amount of pre rut activity around the end of rifle season will vary. if its cold and wet id be out as much as possible. if its warm and dry. stick to early mornings and late evenings for your best opps. calling and rattling combined with a good scent would be a good trick to try also during the later part of rifle season.

The rut usually fires up good and hot around Nov 1st

so, the last week of season should be really good!!

If we have late fall rutting activity may not happen

until after season closes. Try rattling the last two

weeks of season.I use a rattle bag, it works well!
