OK Guys,

I have one of the hand held units and I have used it before a few times and it seemed to work pretty good.

I bought a lantern version for my back deck and tried it this last weekend up in Island Park area and I swear it wasn't doing a thing to keep them away.

Am I missing something?

What are your guys experience with them?

Are they really worth the money?

PS I know I am a wussy for even asking this question. I should just man up, put on long pants and a jacket and swat'em as they are filling up with my blood and then don't worry about any type of disease I may get cause a real man won't get any disease! But, I thought I would ask anyway.

I always thought they were a gimmick, but a buddy of mine had one last year during our Idaho bear hunt and it worked well enough that I bought one before this years hunt.

Hang one on your down buck or bull antler and you will be amazed at how they help keepin' the freaking bees/hornets/fly's at bay....shifting breeze can of course--- is a challenge....

I bought one a few years ago for summer deer scouting. Used it under ideal conditions but got hammered by mosquitos. Haven't used it since. The only thing that helped was getting to video a beast 200" buck with 3 drop tines.

......And your not posting the video??? Lets see the triple drop tine buck. I need some horn porn right now!!!Lol

+1 on the horn porn lol

LAST EDITED ON Jul-29-11 AT 01:38PM (MST)[p]I have no idea about the patio ones they sell. The handheld units are great if you are on a stand hunting deer or bears and it will give enough odor off to envelop the area you are sitting in and keep the critters away. On a windy day or if you are walking doing scouting, etc., I don't think it would do any good.

They worked great for me when staying one spot like in a turkey blind or on stand and if I don't use all the citrus pad I just put in a ziplock and use it again

Keep the opinions coming. Normally I can handle a few of the little buggers but after the swarms i've encountered this year, I too have been looking into them.

I've been on a number of other websites and all but a couple people that use them when on stand or out in a boat fishing have said they are the best thing since sliced bread. I think the secret, as mentioned before, is that they are great if you remain in one spot, but not much good if your are walking and moving around to any extent.

I have been looking into them too. Would of gave 400.00 for one the other day on the mountian lol even if it kinda worked!

Tried one up above 8500 ft. Would not work. Contacted company and they admit they do not work well at high altitude. They offered to refund me, but I told them I would give them to my brother in Wis. They sent me some older models to play with to see if they might work better. Haven't tried the yet.

I never thought about using them at altitude, but I'll bet since they use a butane cartridge to heat the pad that it might not work good way up in the mountains.

The video is a little shakey because I was swatting the bugs. Actually shot it with my 8mm in 2004 but just converted it to digital. Haven't even looked at that clip yet. I'll be needing to learn to use a video editor.

they work great Use them all the time early waterfowling. and camping. They don't work if you are hiking or if its real windy. I been sold on this gimmick for many years now.

They work great in January

Yep they work awesome in most all conditions. If it is windy you don't have to worry about the bugs anyway.

They do however emmett some odor..
