Alright, now this is a big step for me figuring out how to create a login to be able to post something Ha.
What an awesome opportunity I had to be of the lucky few to be in possession of a Sportsman tag, let alone the mule deer tag! From the first phone call home I declared this would be an unguided hunt. I wanted to learn how to hunt monster mule deer and wanted the memories that go with it.(I would much rather kill a 210 buck with family and friends, than a 260 buck using a guide. Just more gratifying that way to me, but that's me not anyone else
) I also described MY buck of a lifetime during that phone call: A big main-framed buck with some trash, but not so much that the trash distracts from the main-frame. I had been dreaming of killing a buck like that to fulfill MY dreams so it was easy to decide what I wanted. After realizing that trying to video my hunt myself would be harder than I thought, I began trying to figure out who I wanted to video it. After a couple months of watching some of Kelly's videos I decided I would give him the opportunity to film such a hunt and hopefully get his name out there a little more. Plus we decided to bring everyone along with us rather than wait until just before the expo to show the deer we were looking at/harvested.
I managed to save up 6 months worth of rent, truck payment, 1400 dollars for food and gas and 900 dollars for emergency money and also taking the semester off from school. I planned on hunting for a while thinking that it would take me longer than sooner to find the buck of MY dreams. But after 4 scouting trips down and receiving written permission from Reed Stevens to be able to access public property through his private property and road we were able to glass up MY dream buck and I knew I was going to have a lot of money saved up in the bank if everything worked out Ha. I fell in love with this buck 50 percent, knowing this is everything I have ever wanted in a buck and the other 50 percent was how we found him. To be able to find him with my parents, sister and one of my best friends made my hunt a success. The thing I love about my experience is that it is just some good ole' boys ( and mom and sister) putting in the work, having fun and then to culminate everything with MY buck of many lifetimes! I couldn't ask for anything more
! Some of you probably could ask for more, so when its YOUR tag, I hope you enjoy your experience as much as I did and you kill YOUR buck of a lifetime. And post it please so everyone can admire the majestic beauty of what this great land gives us the opportunity to enjoy.
Me on the other hand, I WILL be hunting all year... Helping family and friends as they did with me hunting, camping and hopefully harvesting not only great animals but also memories that will stay with us forever. Good Luck to everyone in their own pursuit of THEIR trophy of a lifetime!
