Thoughts on second rifle seasons????

I've never drawn NM elk, probably cause I usually put in for rut hunts excusively (archery, muzzy or rifle). Was thinking about applying for one of the 16's, 34 or 36 late Oct rifle hunt as a 3rd choice just to up my draw odds. Any opinions on this season?? Not looking for a spot or even a unit, more like hunting conditions during this season.

With the news that gas is going down by $.50 a gallon, a drive to NM seems reasonable regardless of the season. LMAO!
