Unit 12/13/23/24

I have a line on a couple of 3rd season tags with a very small amount of land to hunt, is there enough quality public land in these zones to make it worth while. Or if anyone has a line on a trespass fee ranch in these zones I would be happy to hear from them.

I have hunted units 12/24 several times .Lots of elk and also lots of elk hunters.

I should have said that I was looking at deer tags.

I have elk hunted unit 12 several times for elk at about 9-10,500 feet in mid september. Lots of elk and we rarely see mule deer. I did see two decent bucks this last year and prior to that it has been just a few does and small forks. Not to say that they aren't there as we are elk hunting and that is what we are seeing and chasing, just sharing my observations. We never have sat down and glassed much, we just beat the dark timber and call.

For 3rd season deer,I would stay low in the sagebrush, oak brush country. Look on maps for BLM or state trust lands. We hunted 12 in 09 and filled up with decent 20 inch wide 3x3s. We saw lots of bucks,but no real trophies on the public lands. 24 is all high country so rule that out. I didn't think the hunting pressure was nearly as bad as it used to be.

There is some pretty good hidden spots of land to hunt in unit 12 if the crowds arent there.

Thanks for the information, now I'm just waiting to find out if the vouchers are for private land only tags!! (I hope not)

I haveseen some nice bucks thru the years west of Sleepy Cat.

I have hunted these units lots of times,only saw one good Buck 170 class,way to many hunters everywhere you went looked like a pumpkin patch.I personaly think they are shot out.
