LAST EDITED ON Jul-07-13 AT 01:36PM (MST)[p]Has anyone hunted unit 21/30 muzzleloader, and if so how was it? Is it worth buying a $3,500 landowner voucher?

LAST EDITED ON Jul-08-13 AT 12:30PM (MST)[p]It depends on the private land you are getting to hunt with the voucher. The tag for a resident is not horribly hard to draw. For me $3500 is a lot and I would not consider that much for a muzzy tag in that unit. There are some great bucks, but they are hard to find, especially so once they rub off.

As a resident it only takes 3 years to draw that tag. There are good bucks and with a lot of hard work you should be able to find something in the 180s range with a good chance to find something easily in the 160s.

Just my thoughts. If I had $3500 plus all the other money involved for gas, camp, food etc. I would look for a guided hunt someplace instead of just paying that much for a tag.

PS I am in those units for elk that time of year, have never been overly impressed with deer at that time of year.

2 of us drew this tag a few years back {NR 7 pts}. I hadn't been there prior-took a lot of great advice from MM users as well as prior hunters. When we arrived it was hot/windy and the bucks were going hard horned. Most sightings occurred early am and real late in the pm. Brother missed 2 diff deer that were 170ish and I had tried to close the distance on another decent buck to no avail.3 times all very early am. I did see quite a few of 3 pt and sm 4 pt bucks. It became even hotter as the week progressed and we ate our tags. Good hunt for us overall-just didn't get it done. I'd key on water or the private if possible. This was THE hunt that has now made us concentrate on the 2-3 pref pt bailouts. No more long waits on the deer, however I'm now at 20 pts on the bull tag. Tough gig i'll tell ya. Give me a holler back if you'll be hunting the public-b glad to help in any way I can. Riggo
