I was up in unit 9 this weekend to see if I could find where all the deer were located. The unit for the most part was fairly wet but many tanks in the northern part of the unit, near Grandview Lookout and the Skinner Ridge area were dry. As a result there was little deer sign. Most of the sign that we did find was old and the tracks were the same way. Even walked off of the Coconino Rim and saw some sign but again it was all old. For those of you who drew an elk tag, bull or cow, you should have no problem finding the elk. THEY WERE EVERYWHERE!! Saw close to 100 elk on Saturday. Saw about 6 bulls, one of which was a nice 370 class 6x6. Even heard some bugles late at night and early in the morning. As for the deer we only saw 9 of them. Many does with fawns and only one buck. Was not too big. His antlers were all messed up. Hopefully it rains a little more up there. If anyone has some good areas to hunt for deer let me know. Other than that everyone have fun scouting and good luck this fall.
