Weren't all of the rifle permits taken earlier this year?
The rifle permits that will be available on Oct. 9 were originally archery and muzzleloader permits that archery and muzzleloader hunters didn't take.
"These permits will become rifle permits on Oct. 9," says Judi Tutorow, wildlife licensing coordinator for the Division of Wildlife Resources. "We're excited to give rifle hunters, who didn't get a permit earlier this year, a chance to get out and hunt."

Well Judy, according to your records you guys only sold 500 less tags than the previous year, now that you have 1300 extra, can you explain why? and what the hell happened to your plans of trying to increase the deer population? Utah DWR is a joke, and always has been a joke, its sick and pathetic--didn't you get enough money for the $5 predator control? I read 86,500 deer permits total---
http://wildlife.utah.gov/hunting/biggame/pdf/2012_general_season_deer_permits.pdf -- at $5 a whack per license that $432,500... paying $50 back for coyotes, we would need to turn in 8,650 dogs and you guys break even, since your so good with the number of our deer population, how about you count how many dogs that are actually in the state for us.
