Valles Caldera Cow Hunt

LAST EDITED ON Nov-04-14 AT 09:21PM (MST)[p]My dad drew the veteran's Valles Caldera cow elk hunt this weekend. Anyone have any GPS marked honey holes for that big one? People have actually said that is a tough hunt haha

Although it's a cow we're looking forward to it!

Can be tough. You may see a bunch of bulls before you find a cow.

It is a little harder than you think. My dad had the mobility impaired hunt two weekends ago. He got one on Monday morning, the last day and he was 4th out of 12 hunters. We found that they were only down in the flats for the first 15 or 20 min of shooting light. If you make your way to roads with elevation you can extend the hunting period. My dad is a veteran also, good luck.

At dark be sitting at Rincon south of Cerro Medio. Start glassing even though it's dark. The minute legal shooting light is available, be ready for a long shot as they head back to tree line.
If no luck, get up as high as you can and glass A LOT!!
