What would you do Moose vs Snowmobiler

RE: What would you do Moose vs Snowmobiler

sure didn't look like the moose was going to stop his charging, I think I would put him down also, But then I would be there gutting him so it didn't go to waste before the F&G could come and pick him up.
He has a right to defend himself against anything or anyone.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-10-17 AT 06:43AM (MST)[p]The rider should have gotten off the track the moose was on. Looks like that is the only reason the moose charged. The moose wanted to stay on the packed trail and so did the rider. Moose should have won that battle. This same scenario happens in Yellowstone on the groomed trails with bison except the rider looses. It has come up before as a reason to stop grooming the trails for snowmobiles and coaches. The rider needed to put the gun down and ride the sled like it was designed to be ridden, in the powder and off the trail. Easily avoided in my mind.

Fricken guy was on a smowmachine....put it in reverse and drive around him...

RE: What would you do Moose vs Snowmobiler

I wouldn't have wanted to shoot/kill the moose. He had a gun, I would have stepped off the trail (if the snow wasn't too deep) and let the moose pass. If the moose comes after you off the trail, well then, you have no choice.I wonder if he would do the same to a belligerent fellow snowmobiler who refuses to back down, or let him pass?

RE: What would you do Moose vs Snowmobiler

I'm betting this wasn't the first encounter between the guy and the moose on this trail. The rider could have stayed back a bit and gave the moose more time/space to move on and probably wouldn't have had to shoot him.

Wow that was a bull chit call. Totally not necessarily as he pressed the animal. To bad the moose didn't get in a better kick.

Well some snowmobiles don't have reverse. You usaully have to install it. Not sure if most.new ones come with reverse.

Secondaly I swear I seen this video 5 years ago. Very Familiar.

I worked in yellowstone all winter a few years back. We rode snomobiles with no.reverse and driving throuhg herds of buffalo. We couldn't go off the road or ya end up in trees or a river but mostly a hot spot. The bison could care less we were around. But the lonely bull Bison had no problem charging us. Out of 50 trips going 60 miles one guy got hit by a bull with no injuries. Just a snowmobile off the road in a ditch.

Biggest lesson I learned I will never do electrical work again at that horrible place

"What would you do different?"

Get the RELH knife and meat sacks out.

RE: What would you do Moose vs Snowmobiler

What they don't show on the video is how long he chased the moose down that trail before the incident...
Moose don't want to run off into fresh powder anymore than a person does. They know their mobility is severely reduced when they do wasting energy and ability to defend/run from predators.
This guy should have been charged with harassing wildlife and poaching. Thus losing snowmobile, gun and rest of his gear.

Isn't the most appropriate action to Stop a Charging Moose or Bison, is to simply, take away; Their Credit Cards...?

RE: What would you do Moose vs Snowmobiler

I think we have seen this before but it's a good refresher on how to get in a jam with a wild animal.

Looks to me like it is the guy's fault and he should pay for that. He shouldn't have kept moving in on that moose.
