I am trying to line out a packer to haul our gear into the wilderness and would greatly appreciate any pointers. Is the south end of the wilderness any better than the north end since it is more vast? It's kinda tough to pick a spot on the map when I've never been to the area, but the packers want to know where we want to go. How about the fringe areas to the north along the unit boundry? Do they get overlooked? Does anyone have any experience with the local outfitters and some of the drop camps they offer. I know I am asking a lot of questions and I appreciate the advice offered thus far. By the way, were do the big bulls hang out...haha.

Most of the big bulls killed in 49 actually come out of the lower country.. majority of the people will hunt high where the elk numbers are better. My dad had an archery tag last year and killed a good bull. I'd recommend looking at areas around Buffalo Peaks, Weston Pass, and rough and tumbling creek.
