First time poster here. Love the community I have seen here, lots of great communication and love for the sport. I'm an avid western hunter, who due to previous employment, am just now getting to cut my teeth in the chase of western mule deer with a bow.
I appreciate the condolences given on this site to my dear friend in his tragic passing recently. I am hunting Region G archery in the coming days with a heavy heart. I let Will piggyback my points this year along with a couple of our close friends, and was looking forward to a true "trip of a lifetime".
That has taken a somber turn, and we discussed scrapping the trip after his passing. In talking, we decided that Will would meet our discussion with an absolute resolve to press on. "Why the hell are you guy's talking about not hunting?" was the quote that we felt he would say if he was still here.
I'm a lurker, but we will be producing a prominent show on this hunt, it will certainly be in his memory. While, some may think of Will in a certain light. I can say for certain, I've met many people in this world, and few who were so generous with the blessings they had been given. Will truly got more out of seeing others succeed than his own conquests. A true selfless man, who shared what he had gained with others and LOVED conservation!
I head into this hunt just knowing that anyone who had a chance to know him was better off for it. Selfishly, I wish I could get one more week in camp with him. I'd trade it for any trophy the mountain had to offer. He left behind a wife who was absolutely his best friend, and his life is a challenge to all of us in our marriages. I pray for his young son, and know that Will's spirit will be with us on the mountain! Good luck to all this season. Don't take a day for granted and God Bless!
