Wolves as P&Y or B&C trophys

I was thinking the other day, that Pope & Young, and Boone & Crockett clubs should include wolves as trophy species. I mean if Mt. Lions are, then Wolves should be as well. If you were to go by body size/weight a full grown wolf will weigh every bit as much as a Coues deer, or Lion.

I just think that if they were put on the North American 29, and made it 30. There would be a lot of trophy hunters that would go after them in Idaho and Montana, so they could keep up their super slam. Just a random thought I'm a little bored with work today

Why not?

It sounds like a great idea to me.
1- The F&G charges tag fees just like other big game animals.
2- They make great mounted trohpies.
3- Wolves are as large as other animals in the "29".
4- Some people would simply see them as a "must have" animal.

Great idea broadfork. Not get to work and get it done! haha

thanks, Zeke

They can measure the length and width of the skull like they do for bears and lions. If they can accept walrus ivory into B&C then why not wolves. IMO, it's just a matter of time.

I have always wondered why they are not one of the recognized species of NA. They have always been legally huntable in AK and CA, so I hope it will happen but I don't think it will be anytime soon cause if they wanted them they would have already done it.

Great idea as long as they make the records for smaller the better in the wolf category. We certainly don't want to be encouraging the DWR to grow big wolves. the smaller they kill them the better.

Good thought!
There also should be a bonus score for QUANTITY too.

And point deductions for fair chase.:)

Might cramp Wyoming's grand wolf plan if the hunting community recognizes wolves as "Big Game" not that THAT plan is going anywhere fast...

I agree baiting with a tree hugger and spot lighting should be big bonuses.

We have a catagory for wolves in the Big Game Records of British Columbia. We go with skull length and width just like bears and lions. Always wondered why the B&C doesn't have a catagory for them as they are hunted pretty much from Coast to Coast to Coast up here in Canada. They would have a lot more enteries than the limited hunting that both walrus and polar bear currently have.
