I've hunted Region G all of my life and I know you hear this a lot, but anymore that is a true trophy buck for this area. Those are far and few between in Region G. You know you would think sooner or later it has got to get better, but the hunting seems to just be getting worse and worse. I remember when it was once a great trophy area, but now you might get lucky and run onto a 190 class buck, but you aren't going to run onto your 200+ bucks. I would say that I used to see some huge bucks, but it seems like the last 5 or 6 years especially the most of the larger bucks taken are in the 170's if that. There just isn't a very good deer population overall anymore and I'd say the buck to doe ratio is down tremendously. Combine this with the fact that hunter population just keeps seeming to increase and it makes for a tough hunt. On that note, I personally have a few areas in particular I like to hunt, and didn't even really hunt either of my two favorite areas because all I seen was orange. Opening morning I literally seen 30 hunters in one small area. I packed up and moved to my next favorite spot to find basically the same thing. Finally I myself just moved to new turf in order to get away from everybody, and I still ran into hunters everywhere. I don't know what the answer is to this, because I myself love to hunt every year, but I don't like to be camping with everyone else either. I have actually been impressed with some of the deer I have seen coming out of the Southeast side of the state. I didn't know that area for being that great ever, but I've seen five really nice bucks come out of there this year.
Oh well.
