Headed up there this weekend for our first scouting trip. I have read up on the DFG page description, archived threads and from a few local sources. Does anyone have any pointers? We plan on making several trips up there. My dad had a rifle tag about 15 years ago and I want this tag to count for him. PMs appreciated, we will look for bulls and lopes for others as well. keep ya posted. I know miles and boot tracks are the key to success. It is a rifle tag he has.

All help is very welcome thanks again,

Craig

Cj, we camped over there about two weeks ago and didn't see much but it was hot and we didn't go out early morning so not too surprising. The does we saw didn't have fawns that we saw but they may have been hiding in the brush, but I was thinking they should be old enough to be right on moms tail, IDK.? Talked to a rancher about it and he said cars are out of control there the last few years but I don't know for sure.

We hunted it in 05 and did great! That year we scouted in July and didnt see a lot of bucks but saw a bunch in season, we did have a little weather which is a HUGE help in X2. So hope for that.

We will be there in Sept. for dads lope tag and I will for sure share any hot tips on bucks we see or hear of.

We are headed that way next weekend. No tags for us this year, but we always spend a couple weeks up there camping regardless. Long drive from San Diego but I was born up there and have roots going WAY back. My father drew a tag last year and took a very nice 4x4. Even with the warm weather, we saw bucks every day...a couple toads as well! GOOD LUCK this year!!!

I live in Alturas and have been spending about 3 days a week up on the garden looking for lopes since we have a tag this year. I have been seeing some bucks, nothing big yet but they are there. All the deer I have seen are right near water. PM me when your coming up and I can point you to some areas where I have seen them. Good luck!

CJB- Just got a call from a friend in Davis Creek. The Barry fire in Oregon has now crossed into California at Muldoon Mountain. Sounds like they are pulling back to the Crowder flat Ranger Station. Another 6,000 acres burnt east of there last week. We just got back from there...saw quite a few Elk-Deer...and TONS of wild horses. This fire is going be good for next year, but it's in the timber now and I don't know if there will be any new growth by the time the season rolls around.

Hope everyone stays safe!
