X6A Tag Return

A friend of mine drew rifle X6A and also drew an out of state deer tag as well
There is a time conflict with the dates and he will have a hard time doing justice to both hunts.
He was very lucky to draw the out of state tag as it was a long shot
Question. Can he return his California tag and not loose his points he had built up? I told him to call CDFW Monday but was wondering if anyone has done this before. Thanks

I think the only way to save points is if it is a Medical emergency

Not any more..i kinda ruined that..not with out a surgery( surgeon note, not a doctor but surgeon) date before opening day..need to e mail license and revenue manager..

Friend talked with DFW and they told him they need a statement in writing as to why returning tag then will respond to his request
Probably to verify him but that’s what I heard yesterday. I believe they are wanting to validate his request
