I am looing for a little help with Wyoming elk Unit 32. I have been in the unit many times but have never been able to draw a tag until this year. Any info on the hunt and quality of bulls would be great. I have ten plus scouting trips planned already far and I am looking for starting areas.

400,

I drew the same tag. I can't wait for Oct 1st!
PM me and we can share notes once scouting season starts.

Thanks,

HH

Easy hunt, 380-400 bulls around every corner. If you can't get a bull the first morning you really need to work on your hunting skills.

Can't wait to be there with ya buddy.

I can tell you this, there is probably a herd with a good bull or two hanging on one mountain , and opening morning before light, there will be headlights and noise from trucks and ATVs and jeeps coming from all directions, and the Elk will be in Colorado, by first shooting light.

Apparently they're sneaking back into Wyoming at some point. The area averages close to a 50% harvest on bulls. That's better than all but one general area in the state and better than most limited quota area's. Anyone decides they're not interested in keeping their 32 tag, send it my way...

There is a fair amount of pressure in CO, unit 201 has 27 tags and is pretty small. For those of you that drew good luck, I put in for the same tag, maybe next year.

Utah 400 Elk, And HeadHunter I also drew a 32 tag. I have already started looking at maps with guys at work and plan on making a trip up in a couple of weeks to coyote hunt and look around. I don't know the area very well but I live in the basin so I will get to know it before to long. We will have to keep in touch.

Striker1,

Congrats on the tag! I agree we should keep in touch as the scouting season gets going. I would appreciate any info on Unit 32 from anyone who wants to share. My email is [email protected]. I have been in the area many times before, but first tag.
It is crazy how drawing a tag in Feb. can have such a positive effect. I have already changed all my application plans for the season, changed my appl. in UT to points only & may cancel my spring bear hunt in order to have as many days possible to hunt the Unit. Good tags are getting tougher & tougher to draw. And with the new WY point system I doubt I will ever be at max levels again. Sure am excited about this season though!
Thanks,
HH

WyoXtec What is that suppose to mean is there a lot of archery hunters on tis unit and I plan on scouting alot.

The archery hunt will be good but as soon as the guns start going off on OCT 1 those elk have a tendancy to disappear.

It look like there is only around 90 tags total on the unit how many people do you think will archery hunt. I can see it is not to far from pine mountain to unit 201 Colorado so thats where alot will go when the shooting starts. I hope to be tagged out before the shooting starts.

Wyoextec is right I was up there a lot last year and saw a lot of elk on the archery. Last year it didn't even take shooting it was just some four wheeler drove right through the big herd and they were gone. Also they have a huge oil rig up on pine mnt and had helicopters flying all over the mnt dropping stuff.

Wyomule is spot on. Last year there was a seismic survey in a majority of the area south of Rock Springs, particularly in 32 and part of 31. It really affected the guys that had finally drawn tags. The elk were more nervous than normal but they are pretty skittish in 32 on any given year.

My advice to the tag holders would be to scout with your optics (the country is big and open) use your pick-up and leave the four wheelers at camp (unless it rains/snows). Hunt smart and good luck, it's a good tag.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-27-09 AT 11:39AM (MST)[p]plenty of elk to make it a fun hunt. the year I hunted it I scouted hard in the summer and learned the country. saw LOTS of elk during the sept bow hunt, then tagged out on opening day with a solid 6 point. use your glasses and find them before you blow them out...in my experiance there was very little if any movement across the border into wyo or colo...

Hey guys thanks for the input from the looks of things right now oil drilling might not be a problem this year, but who knows what will happen this spring and summer. If the Elk are not going to Colorado where do they go when the shooting starts, Utah or unit 31. I really hope I can kill during the archery hunt I love to archery hunt. All my vacation is going on the Archery hunt. Thats good advice on the 4 wheelers what about horse back is there any good contry for horse back or is it easier on foot. I have talk with some buddies in Rock Spings and we are going to meet so they can show me some spots hopefully it will pay off.

Apparently the "Can't wait to be there with you buddy" was lost on Naildriver. 400 is my best friend and hunting partner of 10 years. In no way shape or form was my comment ment to stir the pot and get peoples panties in a knot. I am not a guide on the unit nor will I be...Just 400's buddy flipping him a little crap. Sorry to have offended those with no sense of sarcasm. So all of you who have been PM-ing him letting him know not to expect 400 inch bulls can now stop.

With that said, 400 inches or nothing. The unit is rumored to be the home of the father of spidey.
