LAST EDITED ON Sep-13-05 AT 09:39PM (MST)[p] Another Hunter thought he shot a deer, but instead he shot a moose in Millcreek Canyon!!!! Watch it tonight on Channel 2!! How in the hell can you take a moose for a deer?

It gets worse guys....

They shot the COW moose with shotguns not 30 yards from a road. They were allegedly "grouse hunting"!!!!!????????

I'd like to line them up and mistake them for deer! D@M* some people give us all a bad name and a lot of bad press!

Paul

Best part is they were Grouse hunting up Millcreek and shot the cow moose with a shotgun.

Truly unbelievable.... Lets see if they list their names in the paper tomorrow.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-14-05 AT 07:43AM (MST)[p]You guys think that's bad. Last year, we had a group of Pennsylvania "hunters" up here in Wyoming and one guy "thought" he saw an elk and shot a bull moose. He felt bad and turned himself in to the G&F and they fined him a small amount for being honest. Well, two days later, another in the clan of idiots shoots at what he thought was a cow elk. He "misses" and shoots again because it was still standing there and finally hits the animal. The "elk" he killed on the second shot was the calf moose standing over his dead mother that the derelict killed on the first shot. And he was in the same hunting party as the first. It gets better, he also turns himself in and the guy wants to go to court to plead his case. While at trial, the judge asks him a question about the charges and if he has read them. The "hunter" replies, "I haven't your honor, because I lost my glasses on the first day of the hunt and I can't see real well without them!" Unfreakin' believeable. Judge throws the book at him at least. Typical easterner - shoot at the sound or movement. I ran into another guy last season from Pennsylvania. He was completely covered from head to toe, boots, gloves, hat and a full jumpsuit, of blaze orange. He actually might of been the smartest guy from Pennsylvania knowing there were others in the area, uless of course they shoot oranges for fun!!!!!

A couple years ago while hunting deer in WY I ran into some hunters that remind me of the ones you're talking about. I was coming down the trail from a long day's hunt and near the bottom I come across 2 guys that looked like they were still hunting. Sneaking up the trail with their guns all ready to go and their eyes are peeeled as if they've just seen a ghost! The funny thing was that the parking lot and camp ground is within about 200yds or so of where they are hunting. I asked them how things were going and if they were hunting deer. The one guy quietly says they are hunting moose and they haven't seen anything yet. I told them that I'd seen a decent bull moose up the trail about a mile or so the morning before but hadn't seen anythign today. After talking for just a minute or so we hear something behind us that sounds like a couple of horses tromping down the trail. Just as the first horses legs come into view one of the dumb a$$ guys drops to one knee, jacks a bullet into his gun and takes aim. I about crapped my pants! I told him it was a fraking horse! The guy on the horse actually saw him pointing his gun at them and man was he pi$$ed! As the 2 guys were getting their butt's chewed I just kind of turned and walked off down the trail. What a joke! Some people probably shoudn't be out packing guns around...

Did they kill the moose?
Or just wounded it?

Tough way for a big game animal to go.
Had to have been multiple shots.

I'll tell how you could be so stupid to do something like this. The man who shot the moose was a 63 year old Mexican just in the country for the last few years. This kind of stuff pisses me off to no end! Our neighbors from the South come up here and don't have a frieking clue about our laws, cultures, or anything else for that matter. The guy was stupid enough to think that a small game license entitled him to shoot anything he found in the woods.

That is why big game has been decimated in many parts of Mexico. There were once more types of game animals and more of them in the public lands througout.

Hey you guys. You have to admit it is quite a funny story and video. Can you just imagine 2 feet off the road going at it shooting a Moose with a shotgun! Even the fish cop couldn't help but grin through the whole thing. You have to love the tuff guy punk who wanted to know it is so he can take care of his wildlife. What a joke!!! I know this gives us a bad name but none the less a funny story in my opinion.

The worst part about the whole thing is that it was televised so the first thing that all none hunters are going to think is that all of us hunters are that stupid. Great just what we need.

Here's my prediction.....no more hunting with any type of firearm in Millcreek Canyon.......this is exactly why we can no longer hunt moose in Big Cottonwood Canyon.

I'm sorry, how many shots with birdshot did it take to kill a moose. Disgusting.

On another note, I've heard that the kid who poached Freetos only got a 900 dollar fine cuz he's a juvenile? Can anyone confirm?

this idiot was grouse hunting, even if he thought he was shooting a deer, how the hell do you confuse a grouse with a deer or a moose. if i was at the scene i think i would have grabbed his gun and shot his foot off, or kicked him in the nads.

Didn't we just have this discussion about shooting cows?
I can't believe there are idiots out there that can't or won't tell the difference.

I really don't see any part about it that is funny.

Had a similar thing here in Montana 2 years ago. Young kid shoots a doe. Takes it to a local game processor. NOT a doe, a llama(SP) Wants a second opinion. Takes it to a warden. Still a llama. I believe he was an Air Force outastater. mtmuley

Predator is right. This will be the beginning of the end of hunting Millcreek. The story is plastered over the news and witnessed by hikers and bikers. These are the people who despise hunting to start with now they have a legitimate gripe to close the canyon down.

$900 for Fritos? I thought it was mandatory for $5000 or something like that for trophy sized game.

this is not first time i have heard and that happened before with deer hunter that killed a cow moose. i don't understand cuz it is very different kind of animal so they better go back to school to study and learn the different between deer and moose!

TRUE STORY.......There was a guy up in Twisp who pulled into the Chewack check station to check in his spike. It was a hereford bull. No Shi***** you. He wasn't trying to hide it or anything. He came over from Seattle on his first hunt and was proud as hell that he seen this Buck standing there by the road. Shot it, cut it up and piled it in the back of his truck.

How in the He!! were they planning on identifying a grouse when they couldnt identify a moose. Just one more reason I think we need to make EVERYONE attend & pass a hunters education course. Just because you are older does not make you wiser!!!!

They should string them up naked (or maybe with only a loin cloth)in public and paint a red P on their chest and back.

Besides the fact the guy is complete idiot, and it
is his fault for shooting it, I think the UDWR ought
to change some of its policies.

Why is it that if you were born after 1960 (I believe that is the year) you need no hunter safety training????????

I suppose those people who fall under this age bracket are so blessed with the knowlege of all the hunting regulations and responsibilities.

utahtightwad,
sounds like you are classifying all mexicans as lawless poachers. Truth be told that unless he was a US citizen, he probably could not obtain a license legally in the state of Utah. What if he was black or Asian? Would you have dared to classify him and his people as morons?
