NM 44/45 1st Rifle

I'm almost afraid to ask. I got so much response on the Nevada elk question but that's kinda a once in a lifetime hunt. But this hunt is drawable yet here I go:

I will be huntin the Pecos wilderness with horses, just don't know where. Kinda figure I'll have to go in blind other than looking at maps and talking to folks. With a Wy deer hunt starting 10 days earlier, I think I can get there on the 7th, pack in on the 8th, scout on the 9th and then the 5 days season starts.

Any areas to consider??

I also know this area is rugged, how will my 74 year old dad fair. Plan on getting him close with horses.
