Ever return license for refund?

Has anyone ever returned an unused license to the Colo DOW for a refund? If so, was there any hastle involved?

My situation is that I want one of two tags. I can't afford both. The one I really want, I may not have enough points to draw. The other I'm sure I can draw but want really only as a back-up plan. I can't list one as first choice and the other as second choice because they are two different species. To solve this problem I am considering applying for both, and if I draw both returning one for a refund as described on page 13 of the Colo Big Game regulations.

Anybody do this before?

I've done it. It was no hassle - no questions asked.
One other year I got a general elk tag and a late season cow, intending to return the cow tag if I harvested a bull. Turned out that I got a bull and went the late season anyway - I took my muzzleloader and didn't hunt very hard. Saw a couple nice bulls, but no cows - so I didn't have the problem of too much elk.

Been there . . . done that . . . no problem.

I drew units 72/73 a few years back w/o much research. Decided the unit wasn't worth coming all the way from Alaska for. I followed the regs and submitted my request in writing by the deadline and rec'd my refund.

May need to do it again this year too. I put in for my boy (14) for the same 2nd choice hunt I applied for. Should be a slam dunk to draw the tag. The only problem is that he starts High School this fall and the 3rd season may fall during finals week, so he may not be able to go. The beauty is, that if he can pull it off, he can hunt Mule Deer / Elk in the same unit for another $100 youth unlimited fee.

I reckon everyone will be spilling the beans tomorrow as to what they applied for. I've noticed everyone has been VERY TIGHT LIPPED lately - and rightly so!!!

If you want to retainin your preference points, I believe you have to pay the price of the license.

Good luck in the draws.

A new change for this year in CO is that if you turn in your tag, you cannot get your points back. Even if you let them keep your $.

Desert Sheep is right. Brand new this year!

Returned one this year to get my points back. Man what a pain. It took MONTHS and more BS mail than you can imagine. They lost my stuff 5 or 6 time...you name it.
